Herbal Remedies for Acne

Posted on by Elizabeth / Posted in News | Leave a comment

A friendechinacea asked about natural a remedy for acne. Many of us get acne at various points, and here are some great herbs that can help: burdock, yellow dock, red clover, echinacea and tea tree.
All but the tea tree, which is used as an essential oil, can be used as a tea, tincture or capsule.

You can make your own herbal toner out of any of the herbs, or even combining herbs for a custom formulation. Check your local natural foods store for these herbs. They are usually offered in bulk. To make an herbal toner, use one teaspoon of the herb of your choice and steep in a cup of boiling water for 5 to 7 minutes. Strain and keep the tea in a glass jar in your fridge. Use on a clean cotton ball in the morning and evening before you retire.

Have fun!

Philanthropy

Philanthropy – to me, it means much more than writing a check for a tax donation. In my opinion, to be a part of a community is to actively support it.

This Sunday, June 2nd, I am riding 100 miles as a participant in Rochester, New York’s Tour de Cure, which benefits the American Diabetes Association. The ADA: actively funds research to prevent, cure and manage diabetes and provides community outreach. My maternal grandfather and great-grandfather died of diabetes, so the disease runs in my family. Exercise and healthy eating choices are my top prevention tools.

We also support:

CP Rochester – A dynamic community resource for people with physical and developmental disabilities.

Heather Boyum Memorial Education Children’s Fund – Heather was a beloved member of the Rochester Moms in Motion Team. On July 29th, 2012, she was killed by two drunk drivers while out on a training ride. This fund is set up to benefit her beautiful children, Paige and Frazer.

The Michael Carter Lisnow Center – Located in Hopkinton, Massachusetts, the Center provides emotional and physical support for families with children with disabilities.

Moms in Motion Rochester – A fitness team for women. We run, bike, swim, walk and have a lot of fun! Our national philanthropy is the Susan G. Komen Foundation, and locally we support our first responders, animal shelters and families who have loved ones deployed.

Race for the Vase – Benefits the Honeoye Central School Districts Cross Country Team

The YMCA of Greater Rochester – A fantastic community resource for fitness, fun and community outreach. This year, I ran the JP Morgan Chase Corporate Challenge, a 3.5 mile run, which drew 11,000 participants this year, and benefitted the YMCA.
