Eye Compress for Allergies

herbs

Allergies can be rough, especially for kids. Sara, my youngest daughter, has struggled with a pollen allergy for the last couple of years. She refuses to go see an allergist, and prefers to take a homeopothic remedy. When we saw her eye doctor this week, he suggested OTC eye drops, and Sara said she hates eye drops and asked if I could make something for her instead. I went to my herbal apothocary and chose Eyebright and Chrysanthemum for a natural herbal eye compress. Eyebright (Euphrasia officinalis) is well known as a remedy for the eyes, and Chrysanthemum (Chrysanthemum sp.) will cool, and calm eye irritations.

To make this remedy, place 1 teaspoon of Eyebright and 1 teaspoon of Chrysanthemum into 1 pint of boiling water. Let rest for 10 minutes. Strain, let cool, and dip a clean, cotton washcloth into the herbal infusion. Wring out, and place compress on eyes for 15 minutes.
