Natural doesn’t necessarily mean natural!
I’ve been on the hunt for good, natural hair styling products. Formulating my own is on the bucket list, but in the meantime, I need to rely on others to keep my tresses styled, and healthy and happy. When we lived in Germany, I came across Lush, and loved their product line. I recently surfed on over to their website and was thrilled to see they offered hair styling products. I was ready to buy, buy, buy, until I came across their ingredients list and found out that not only do they use parabens as a preservative, but they consider parabens safe. “The parabens are still the safest and mildest we can find. We constantly review and investigate cosmetic preservatives, and we consider any sound scientific evidence. They are safe to handle during manufacture and guarantee the quality and safety of the products we want our customers to enjoy.” Perhaps they are not aware that parabens have been found in biopsy samples from breast tumors (Darbre, 2004) and in urine samples from a demographically diverse sample of U.S. adults (Ye, 2006a). Good thing I didn’t shop too fast!
